A Weekend of Wonderful Warships

On Sunday 30th June, the families from the Thinking Space team enjoyed a weekend of wonderful warships amidst the hot sun and cool sea breeze, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyards.

Starting the day together with a bacon sandwich breakfast, we set off to explore the HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, and the HMS M33. With the most famous of which being the HMS Victory and her role in the Battle of Trafalgar, Wayne set everyone a little competition.  There was a prize for the person who could carry off the best re-enactment of the death of Lord Nelson, taken on the spot where he was shot. Some fantastic pictures were taken, with the best due to receive a prize in the form of a small model of the warship and a Nelson teddy bear. Votes are being taken as we speak, so watch this space for the winning photo.

The day was not all about history however, as there were lots of activities to participate in. Many of us pushed the boat out at Action Stations. We learnt the structure of aircraft carriers and attempted to build them as quickly as possible. Some of us also completed the “Ninja Force” assault course, which was no plain sailing! No one came close to beating the record time of 36 seconds, although we gave it our best shot!

Another favourite of the group was a punching bag attraction that required agility and strength to complete; scores were compared over a delicious lunch that was provided (see photo above).

It was great to come together at breakfast and lunch to tell each other what we had been up to and recommend where to go next. As well as to initiate one or two friendly competitions between colleagues!

This family day was a huge success, enjoyed by everyone who came. We all learned so much, but most importantly; we all had great fun together.
