Running for Rose Road in the Romsey Relay

Last Sunday, ten of us headed to the Broadlands Estate in Romsey , running for Rose Road in the Romsey Relay.

With a dramatic increase in popularity for this years’ event, our team, the “Thinking Space Pacers” joined 130 other teams at the start line, as the sun began to beat down.

Even though Thinking Space have been entering this event since it began 5 years ago, this was the first year that all 10 runners were Thinking Space employees. Most had run before, but we had a few new runners who had yet to experience the course and fantastic atmosphere of the event.

Our first leg, Barry, took off with pace, coming in at 21:19 minutes for the 2 leg course, 2.6 miles. Suzanne took up the baton next, at 26:13. Then Wayne at 23:08 and by this point, the weather was definitely hotting up, so taking on water was welcomed. Our fourth leg was Neil, who smashed his previous run timings to come in at 20:27 minutes. Taking over the baton from Neil was the first of the two Pauls; Paul Atkins, who half-walked and half-ran to come in at 30:32 minutes. Then came Mike, who was a first time runner of this event for us, to come in at 28:54 minutes. The second Paul, Paul Roberts then ran, narrowly missing Neil in the top space pace, at 20:44. But not for long, as Matt toppled Neil’s pace, coming in at a speedy 18:26 minutes. Competitive Patrick took over the baton next and came in a second faster than Barry, at 21.18. Our final leg was completed by Connor, who had been patiently waiting since the start of the race and at around 1pm, it was his time, as he ran in 30:40.

The final results for the Thinking Space Pacers gave us a finish time of just over 4 hours, coming 99th out of 130 teams. But our mantra is the taking part rather than the timings. The fun and the feel-good factor was definitely felt by all our team, as well as those who turned up to cheer us on.

And not only fun… for we have also raised a target-smashing £961.85 for Rose Road Association, so thank you to everyone who has donated to our cause. Our JustGiving page is still open for donations!

Here are a few highlights of the day to share and remember…

Roll on 2019 when our next plan is...two teams!!
