PROJECT OVERVIEW

The control room is pivotal in providing emergency response to calls from within the region. The interior fit-out upgrade of the emergency services control room and supporting rooms included the décor, flooring, lighting, and furniture.

OVERVIEW OF CLIENT

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary site in Hamble, Hampshire, is the Southern Support & Training Headquarters. Within one of the buildings, sits the Emergency control room that services the Southern Hampshire region, receiving 999 calls from Southampton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight & the surrounding areas.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Thinking Space was approached by Showcase PSR to design and supply over 90 height-adjustable consoles for the control room space and supporting technical rooms. Showcase PSR took the role of main contractor and was responsible for the interior fit-out upgrade for the Constabulary. The remit was to assist in modernising the control room space. The existing furniture and décor had been in place for over 15 years. Thinking Space worked with Showcase PSR in complimenting the updated décor with furniture to suit the revised modern feel.

The scope of works for Thinking Space included the brief of 4 different desk designs for the 96 positions. The desk designs had to meet the furniture layout arrangement that Showcase PSR had worked with the client to achieve. Central to this design were 3 large horseshoe desk arrangements, one for each geographical region, Southampton, Portsmouth & the Isle of Wight. All desks installed were height adjustable and accommodated up to 4 screens per position. To help personalise the furniture design to the Constabulary, Thinking Space created a skyline design detailing key sites from the region. This design was printed onto the rear panels of the horseshoe desks to great effect. 

PROJECT EXECUTION

Further to the delivery and approval of a mock-up console, Thinking Space worked within tight timescales to manufacture the large volume of desks. The desks were installed across two phases with the majority delivered and fitted within one weekend. It was all hands to the pump to complete the installation works, ahead of the Constabulary’s IT service fitting the client’s technology.
