BSR creates smart energy systems for a low-carbon future. They are a leading renewable provider of expert services into the renewable energy industry, building, connecting and managing utility-scale solar and energy storage projects for developers and investors. Based at their premises in Shepton Mallet, Somerset, they work on high quality energy projects in the UK and overseas. They have built in excess of 550 MW of energy projects in the UK, including the four largest solar sites in the UK.rnrnDue to the requirement to upgrade existing control room facilities for the BSR team, a review of areas within the building identified a new space for the control room, with the old control room becoming arnmeeting room.

Scope of the project

Thinking Space were approached by BSR after finding their website. What particularly attracted the client to their control room furniture was the design and materials used. With a Thinking Space console, its’ design is futureproof, allowing any subsequent modifications and additions to the consoles be created with ease. Similarly, if the control room needed relocating again, then the consoles would be easy to relocate too. Thinking Space were tasked with providing 2D and 3D designs to show how the new control room would look. In particular, BSR were very keen to provide sit/stand working for its staff, and therefore height adjustment for the consoles was a must.

Project Execution

The final monitoring room design locates a 3 row Evolution media wall, mounting six large flat screens in a 3 x 2 configuration, and six smaller screens across the top of the configuration. A console for two operators is positioned immediately in front of the media wall, and provides separate height adjustment for each operator. A further height adjustable console for one operator is also provided in the room, alongside an interactive white board to be used together. As well as providing the furniture, Thinking Space employed their trusted team of subcontractors to refurbish the existing and new control room and project manage the works. Lighting, decoration work, air conditioning, power and data modifications were all undertaken as part of the project. Key benefits for the investment in this area was to create a ‘wow’ factor to the operational element of the business and provide a practical and enjoyable working space for the Monitoring Team to work in.
