PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our Case Study Glasgow Operations Centre features a new multi-function control centre at Eastgate, Glasgow, officially opened in February 2014. It links the Public Space CCTV, Traffcom, The Council’s Resilience & Safety Team and Police Scotland together.

The centre will be responsible for keeping the city operational and safe in time for the Commonwealth Games this summer and beyond. It is currently the largest control centre in the UK.

OVERVIEW OF CLIENT

In January 2013, Glasgow City Council was awarded £25m funding from the Future Cities programme, beating off competition from over 20 other councils. The aim of the programme is to show how technology can be used to make life smarter, safer and more sustainable.

The new control centre forms part of the overall programme, which was officially opened by councillor Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, in February 2014.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

Thinking Space worked with architects from IBI Group to design and install control room furniture to accommodate 24 operator positions in the new CCTV control centre.

Each console is designed for the individual roles within the amalgamated control centre, whether it be for traffic, emergency services or security roles. Duty Manager positions are also included in the design, ensuring optimum viewing of operations.

PROJECT EXECUTION

Every console has been manufactured using the Core Assembly System, the latest aluminium build system developed by Thinking Space. As well as an ergonomically designed workstation, desk pedestals, lockable cabinets and underscript LED lighting has been fitted to each console.

One console has been provided with the facility for its height to be raised and lowered, to meet special physical requirements. 85 no. Novus monitor arms were provided, ensuring that all operators were equipped with ergonomically positioned monitors.
