Our World of Events

The third and final slice of our Employee Focus series takes a look at our world of events.

Our events calendar has always taken on a social tone. This started when Managing Director Wayne Palmer formed the company and invited the small team and their families for a picnic or a game of rounders on a hot summer’s day. Of course, as the weather turned, it invariably led to indoor pursuits such as skittles in pubs, and pubs, of course!

Family Days

The first formal company ‘Family Day’ was held in the summer of 2012, to celebrate the successes of the year. The game was well and truly upped as we were cordially invited to Marwell Safari Park for a sunset safari tour. As the park was closing, we were given ‘access all areas’ and even a train ride thrown in for good measure.

The following year, our Family Day also served up a special celebration for us. It was our 10 year anniversary, so we raised the bar a little further with a day at the Hawk Conservancy. We watched an amazing aerial display, along with the chance to hold one of the magnificent Birds of Prey and then consume a very special cake.

And so the list of summer events continues over the years. We’ve enjoyed further trips to Marwell, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and some good old fashioned barbies thrown in too!

Not only have we celebrated with summer outings but we go ‘all out’ at Christmas too. With our usual Christmas party doomed this year, we took to our screens last night for an online quiz, hosted by Adam Wood. And nothing was going to stop Wayne from spoiling every employee with a special Christmas hamper. This is a tradition steeped in history, which gets better and better each year.

Experience days

Our events have not only been seasonal, we’ve also had some interesting days out. In 2018, Wayne organised an experience day for every employee. If they didn’t like boats, there was a virtual golf lesson to enjoy. If they did like boats, then we were in at the deep end as we navigated a yacht around The Solent.

10 year service awards

In 2015, we hit a brand new event for the company…the 10 year service anniversary. The inaugural occasion was set by a pair of employees, Pete Collins and Paul Atkins. We marked the event  with a presentation plaque, personalised card and gift. These were presented at the company meeting, where they shared experiences of the early days with us…barns and bulls, apparently!

Our latest employee celebration was Neil Walker, whose 10 year anniversary fell this year. Despite the difficulties that the year has imposed on us, we managed to present Neil with a commemorative plaque and gift. As an extra special twist, we printed a large photo montage of Neil through the years at Thinking Space.

Watch this space

We’ve had events where we’ve said goodbye to colleagues, seen them get married, we've welcomed their offspring and celebrated all our successes through the years.

We look forward to many more years making company event memories.
